A welterweight bout between The Ultimate Fighter: American Top Team vs. Blackzilians welterweight winner Kamaru Usman and Emil Weber Meek was originally scheduled for UFC 219. However, because of an alleged visa dilemma for Meek which affected his traveling program, the pairing was postponed and then rescheduled to this particular event. [5] But, it was shifted to UFC Fight Night: Stephens vs. Choi per day after, that took place six days before this event. [6]
A welterweight bout between Abdul Razak Alhassan and Sabah Homasi was initially scheduled for UFC 219, but later altered to this occasion. When Alhassan acquired via a TKO that was controversial, the pairing met earlier at UFC 218. [7][8]
Charles Rosa was expected to face promotional novice Dan Ige. However, on December 22, Rosa pulled due to a neck injury. [9] Ige stayed on the card and faced fellow newcomer Julio Arce. [10]

Jamie Moyle was anticipated to face Maryna Moroz in the event. However, Moyle pulled out of the struggle during the week leading up to the event citing an undisclosed injury. [13] In turn, advertising officials suggested that Moroz will be rescheduled for a future occasion.
